Most machine tools position linear axes through ballscrews with position feedback devices (encoders) directly coupled to the end of the ballscrews. The positioning accuracy depends upon the condition of the ballscrew. For most users of machine tools the condition of the ballscrews will be sufficient for maybe the complete life of the machine (dependant upon basic housekeeping and maintenance). For higher levels of accuracy or even to check the effect of temperature changes, laser inspection and calibration of the axes (linear and rotary) may be of use. Through our partner companies we can arrange for your machine to be inspected and calibrated.
Companies which operate to very tight manufacturing tolerances or wish to keep track of machine position capability will usually laser calibrate their machines once a year.
